It never ceases to amaze me how much the U.S. government can be influenced by the mere idea of bringing in more money. Approving the Tar Sands Keystone XL pipeline is a big mistake. Every piece of it is a hazard to our environment. Whether it’s the destroying of land to install it, the risk of spills, or the inevitable increase of greenhouse gas emissions, the pipeline will cause nothing but problems.
Sure, it will create jobs and give our economy a boost. But at what cost? Producing this monstrosity just deepens our dependence on oil, when we could be focusing on finding an alternative energy resource. Those who are standing at the gates of the White House in protest remember President Obama’s words, “Let’s be the generation that finally frees America from the tyranny of oil…and realizing that few obstacles can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.” So Mr. President, where is the change you promised?
